Have you ever had the "Help! I believe in tongues" feeling? I certainly have - and for a long time. This book is the result of that kind of feeling. In one sense this dissertation is a third view of speaking in tongues. It certainly is not new and probably millions of Christians have held it before me.

But today between the ever louder yes and the ever more adamant no there is room for a maybe. With all of the spiritual gifts, it is ''as He wills."

Moreover, with glossolalia surging among historic Christian denominations and in the Roman Catholic church itself, there is a need for spiritual discernment. This manuscript is a contribution toward that need.

My prayer is not that you will see as I do, but only that agape love will multiply through these pages. And, that God will grant genuine manifestations of His Holy Spirit in His church.

I am truly grateful that God allowed me first to write A Revolution of Love because, not only scripturally but in our lives as well, truths about the gifts of the Holy Spirit need to be set in a context of love.

Some of the statements here are strong. Earlier in my ministry I could not have conceived of strong statements as being related to love at all. But one learns. Charles G. Finney once said, "They greatly err who suppose that benevolence is all softness under all circumstances. Severity is not cruelty but is love manifesting strictness, rigor, and purity when occasion demands."

Thus I have submitted every page to a test of love. Whether or not I have been successful, you may judge for yourself.
