|Sin Brings Defeat|
Text: "Israel has sinned; . . . You cannot stand against your enemies until you remove it." Joshua 7:11, 13
The conquest of Jericho had just been completed. It was the first major campaign in Joshua's rule. And it was spectacular!
However, one man--Achan--had stolen some of the plunder for himself. Through his avarice, sin had entered the camp, and though they did not know it, the Israelites were rendered powerless. When they sought to destroy Ai, a small suburb of Jericho, they sent just a few soldiers, thinking that the men of Ai would be easily routed.
Not so! There was sin in the camp of Israel. The presence of sin caused the military defeat at Ai.
It is a known fact that military personnel who are moral and upright tend toward bravery on the field of battle. Conversely, those soldiers who are compromised in their morals often are the most easily defeated.
The "Christian" West is being guarded in many cases by military personnel who have given themselves over to moral corruption. Where does that leave us? Judge for yourself.
