|Let's Do Some Thinking|
Text: "'Come now, let us reason together,' " says the Lord. Though your sins are like scarlet, they shall be white as snow; though they are red as crimson, they shall be like will." Isaiah 1:18
If Lyndon B. Johnson, former president of the United States, seemed to have a favorite Scripture, it was this one-- "Come now, let us reason together." He often used the ancient text as a political tool to encourage compromise and agreement.
The prophet, however, uses "reason" to encourage the pursuit of forgiveness and release from sin. Iniquity is seen in scarlet color. Salvation is snowy and wooly white. If intellect is to be used in the spiritual realm, then let us love God with all our minds, let us allow the mind of Christ to dwell in us and let us use reason in our apologetics, being ready always to give an answer to everyone.
The mind is a holy gift-- part of God's creation.
This gift of God, our intellect, has a primary purpose-- to make certain that the most rational thing a man might do is to offer his scarlet sins to the Divine Whitener, Jesus Christ our Lord.
Uses of the intellect other than primarily for this redemptive reason are, at best, frail and weak. To glorify God with your mind is to wholly surrender it to Him.
