|God Hardens Some Hearts|
Text: "Therefore God has mercy on whom he wants to have mercy, and he hardens whom he wants to harden" Romans 9:18.
Why would a gracious God who exerts everlasting loving kindness harden the heart of anyone? I don't know, but it happens.
It happens today as it happened to Pharaoh. Moses' contest with the ruler of Egypt proceeded from miracle to miracle --yet, Pharaoh hardened his heart. And, indeed, God hardened it too.
Why? In Pharaoh's case, God was determined to release His children from bondage and slavery. He was determined to show His glory before the world --and He certainly did that.
Sometimes God hardens the hearts of men because, in His foreknowledge, He knows they will never repent. There are those who question God's integrity on this point, suggesting that He is unfair and unjust.
But there comes a point when we must affirm God's goodness and agree with the Scripture which says, "Shall not the judge of all the earth do right?"
Of course, He does. And, of course, He will.
